You may have spotted some light bulb packs having a Lighting Facts label on a retail shop shelf. The reasons for the facts label is to help you better understand what you're buying in order to make shopping for light bulbs easier (which would appeal to most homeowners).


The Lighting Facts Label Explained

To help consumers understand light bulb efficiency, the Energy Independence and Security Act legislation directed the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the U.S. (which we believe should be adpoted internationally) to change its current labeling requirements for all medium based general service LED bulbs. The Lighting Facts label helps consumers base their purchase decision on the brightness (lumens) of the bulb and cost of operation, instead of wattage. The label is an industry tool to help buyers evaluate product performance against manufacturer claims.
There are two label types though; one by the DOE Label(US Department of Energy) and the FTC  Label. The former being solely for LED lightings and the latter covering incandescent bulbs, halogen bulbs, CFL bulbs and LED bulbs.

Brightness/ Light Output - Measures light output and measured in Lumens, not Wattage. The higher the number, the brighter the Light.
Energy Used/Watts - Measures energy required to light the product. The power consumption of the bulb in Watts. The lower the number, the lower the power consumption.  
Estimated Yearly Energy Cost - The cost to light this bulb based on 3 hours per day.
Efficacy (Lumens per Watt) - Measures efficiency. The higher the  number, the more efficient the product.
Color Rendering Index (CRI) - Measure color accuracy. Cloud Energy LED bulbs are >= 80
Life - The bulb life in years based on a usage of 3 hours per day.
Light Appearance/Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) - Indicates the color emitted on a scale from warm to cool in degrees Kelvin. "Cool" colors have higher Kelvin temperature (3600-6500K); "Warm" colors have lower color temperature (2700-3600K).
